Rin seemed to freeze at the sight of his kangaskahan as she was confronted with its size. The large beast was an oddity and had she never seen one before, it’d surely be a fright. Yet as always, she rebounded and her confidence returned, though her listless persona still weighed heavy on her appearance.
Two piercing calls were uttered as Rin managed to guess two of the golbat’s moves. Colored rings escaped the bat pokémon’s mouth, first glowing a desaturated yellow and then a sharp blue as the attack changed from supersonic to screech. Had this been a contest she’d surely have gained several points for display, though the din was less then desirable. Stino covered his ears momentarily to impede the shrill sounds from bouncing around his eardrums, though Fearow took the brunt of the strident attack.
The vulture veered to the right, missing the target completely and ran into a wall in confusion. To say the simple humiliation of his proud bird was frustrating could not properly capture the feelings bubbling under Stino’s cold exterior, then adding in the immense trouble his kangaskhan was having, Rin successfully created a volatile cocktail of emotion.
With a simple “defend” the dark pupitar had found it necessary to use earthquake and shake his Pokémon to its knees, how distressing! And though there was a silver lining to this cloud, Stino deplored having to enact such a tactic so soon.
“Fearow, right yourself and try again; Kangaskhan, endure and crunch.”

Rin gasped as she regained her balance and Stino’s fearow dove into the heavy stadium wall, supersonic had worked flawlessly and improved her odds in battle. If she won, Stino would never be able to recover his status, who could after losing to your own recruit with the very pokemon you chose to give them?
Though her purpose for the defeating him was petty, Rin grinned as the fearow haphazardly flew about. He deserves it.
“Golbat, keep it away with gust!” Rin ordered, hoping that the befuddled bird could easily be pushed to the side and maybe even into anther wall.
Directing her attention back to the hard shell pokemon, Rin looked mystified. The earth had been scored with countless veins from it’s earthquake and the charging roo had been stopped in it’s tracks, and though it looked no worse for the wear, the simple fact that the pokemon she’d been given had such power was a treat.
A ground type? Rin surmised and struggled to name several common ground and rock-type moves. “Stone edge,” she stammered, unsure that he’d be able to use such a move.
Miraculously, several stones rose from the tattered ground before the pupitar and flew viciously towards the attacking pokemon, but the beast continued to rush through and wrapped its jaws around the pod.
“TAR!” Shouted the cocoon, “pupitar!” A dim light then pulsed from the bitten pokemon’s body and Rin had to take a second look, unsure of what she just saw. The dark light pulsated again surrounded the pupitar as it was using dark pulse.

“Endure,” Stino instructed the hefty “roo,” as the pupitar begun to pulsate in its jaws. “Now, reversal.”
It was rather early in the match to be using such a move, but Kangaskhan had taken a substantial amount of damage from the rock/ground type’s attacks. Earthquake, stone edge, and dark pulse, every one of them had hit, not that he’d attempted to stop them; it was all calculated risk, contemplated from the start.
The parent Pokémon tightened its grip on the silver shell attempting to shatter it; it’s low health and reversal fueling the attack.
As kangaskhan was about to end things on the ground, fearow seemed to have a better take on things above. His confusion was still there, but less potent and he soared forward, battling his way through the light gust created by the golbat. The spinning drill of his beak cleared a path through the wind and the bird begun to spin with it, gaining much needed speed towards the bat.
“Rin, may I ask what it was you were expecting to accomplish by challenging me to this ludicrous match?” He begun to quiz her, having seen that Rin was a girl with a reason for most everything; her actions back at the lake had demonstrated this, she left with him to prevent any harm from coming to that dastardly red head. So what was the reason for this battle? She’d been informed that a win wouldn’t free her, thus her motives had to lie elsewhere.

Why? Tray, he was around here somewhere and that’s why she chose to battle. News of her arrival would spread like wildfire if she beat Stino, heck, even a loss would merit attention; it wasn’t everyday a grunt rudely stood up to their superior. After all, that’s why she came here in the first place.
Was she really that lovesick? Yes, she could lie as much as she wished, saying that she only ended up her to protect Akira, but that was never entirely why. Was every girl in Iona in love with him? Yea, pretty much. Rin shook her head and focused again on the battle. The way he’d spoken made it seem as if it was over and to her dismay that appeared to be true. Kangaskhan was crushing the pupitar with unrivaled force while Fearow was about to tear through Golbat, leaving Rin with a great deal of sympathy for the odd pair. She’d thrown them into a battle they couldn’t possibly win…
Calling them back to stop the chaos, Rin glared at Stino who stood before her smug as ever.
“To kill time,” was the best answer she could muster.
