Let's face it. No one has the time or patience to collect all eight badges. I would like to lower the required amount to maybe 5 or 6, just so that there's more room for other things. And make it a rule that once you collect said number of badges, you don't need to collect any more the next time you compete in the league. This also gives gym leaders a chance to participate, yet not have to have their own badge. So now it is up to you. Yes? No? Or do you not care about the badges.
I'd really like to see a yearly league, or one at least every few months or so... |

So we would still have 8 gym leaders but only 5 badges are required to participate in the league? :S
I like the fact that this would allow people who RP as Gym leaders to be able to participate in the bulk of the RP's. I like the idea, though in actual RP, I never got around to getting any badges.

I voted leave it be. Eight badges is not a lot as it is. I've already attained five of them. It's not that hard, nor that taxing. The idea of not requiring players to redo gyms to get eight badges AGAIN just to qualify for a yearly league competition only further solidifies my position on keeping them as eight. If you'd have to do eight each and every time, that would've been a different story.
As for Gym Leaders being able to participate. Perhaps THEY can have a reduction in the amount of badges they need to earn. I mean, if they're a gym leader, clearly they've proven themselves to be capable trainers at one point or another. As for newbies fresh from Pallet Town, they're the ones that need to prove themselves. So they should have to do the full eight gyms. Maybe Gym Leaders only do six?

I like to think that every Gym Leader has their own badge. It is their gym after all and they must of done something badge worthy to obtain the title. In my Iona -wow, that sounds awfully egotistical- I pictured that all the leader's fought for their positions and in doing so I just amused they obtained their badges. To be honest, that's how I thought all of Pokémon worked. Although with the rank of Gym Leader perks such as the ability to challenge the league with six badges aren't totally out of the question. I say it's the player's call, if you want to take on the league with six badges and you're a gym leader be my guest. Ha, I bet you're just itching to fight Rath.
On another note, I don't believe that it's too hard to get all of the badges, especially if you make that your goal and hop from town to town to do so. (Rin's going to do it.) Also, I fear that if players aren't required to obtain all eight some of the gym leaders may never see battle; even though I often state that I deplore battles, I am eager to use my leaders.
