Remains of Iona

A dry breeze rolled across the devastated Lily Valley which had be vacated by the eruption of Frost Mountain. The former Boron City Gym Leader, Kitsumaru Amané, stood with a pained expression on his face. Even his small electric companion Sparky looked upset by the surrounding area. The state of Iona was grim. Many innocent bystanders lost their lives because of the greedy and corrupt Team Rocket. So many trainers lost their lives trying to uphold justice and peace. The loss of these people took its toll on the surviving population, still trying to recover from the destruction. Kitsumaru was no exception to this. In a last ditch effort to stop Team Rocket, his very own brother, Rath, lost his life.
At first it didn't seem real. Days went by and nothing seemed to be any different until he looked outside his window. Not one bit of it sank in until the funeral, yet even then Kitsumaru refused to believe that his brother was gone. What bothered him most was being offered his brother's old position as the Champion of Iona. He did his best to isolate himself so that he could process everything that had happened but nothing seemed to make him feel better about it. He eventually gave in, becoming the Iona League Champion. Of course he had been criticized by many for taking up this position due to several people coming up with ridiculous rumors (included him having plotted against his brother from the start in order to get the position or gaining the title entirely due to him being Rath's brother). It would be some time before he and his newly appointed Elite 4 would be accepted by the public. The Pokemon that belonged to his brother that survived were left with Professor Oak in Pallet Town, the place where his brother started his journey. A few of his brother's remaining Pokemon that hadn't been found were turning up all around the island and Kitsumaru took it upon himself to round them up and send them back to Professor Oak. He kept a few of them which refused to be sent back or put in a PC.
Kitsumaru let out a deep sigh. His assistant Azami, the fill-in Gym Leader for Boron City, walked up slowly behind him and set her hand delicately on his shoulder. "Kit--I mean Mr. Amané..." she said quietly. "We need to get going. You have a meeting with Professor Elm to discuss the environmental restoration efforts. I've already written up a diagnostic report for this area to show him. We also need to bring Ms. Midori her paperwork for joining the League." Kitsumaru looked back at her and gave her a faint smile. Ever since the Rockets were taken care of, all of his time had been put toward the Iona League and the restoration of the island. He had organized the Elite 4 so that each of them would be responsible for a quadrant of the island (north, south, east, and west). There was a lot to restructure within the Elite 4, though Kitsumaru needed to go about it subtly as to not upset the residents of Iona. He had already been required to find replacements for the gym leaders that had been lost in the battle. He felt confident in the candidates, though, especially the ones he had met previously such as the talented Alix Taylor.
He pulled a Pokeball from his belt and rolled it in front of him. It popped open and a large orange dragon shot upward into the sky. Kitsumaru told Azami, "I'll meet you there. Rath's Charizard could use some fresh air." Azami, looking somewhat concerned, nodded quietly as the large fire-type bent down to allow Kitsumaru to hop into its back. Before he could hop onto its back, he noticed something on the ground catch the sun, reflecting it directly into his eyes. Out of curiosity, he walked over to the source of the refraction of sunlight and picked it up. Kitsumaru smirked as he rolled a small marble around in his hand. It was rather peculiar to be one of the few things that wasn't buried under rubble or scorched ground but he quickly dismissed it and slid it into his pocket before departing on the back of his brother's Charizard.
