A New Generation?

In an effort to kick-start the forum's slow beating heart we've been looking into some new ideas, one of which is a new generation of trainers. We'd jump a good 50-100 years into the future and our trainer's families would be roaming the island instead.

This is an extreme shift due to the fact we'd have to nuke our old trainers and start fresh, but maybe that's what we need?

I would be okay with nuking our characters. I think with everyone being far enough ahead and having their characters developed there's less incentive to roleplay and less incentive to strive for improving teams. What our characters have accomplished will still hold some importance with the plot and the history of the island so it isn't as if we are rebooting and scrapping what people have worked so hard on.

It's hard to get the ball rolling when people have so little time to roleplay and don't necessarily have anyone to roleplay with whom they would have reason to roleplay with. Things have grown a bit complicated and with so many people picking up jobs normally done by an NPC (gym leader etc) it's hard to really have anything to work toward unless there is an apocalyptic plot (still waiting for a nuclear fallout). If we do skip ahead, we could always make it between 10 and 20 years ahead and then assign our beloved characters to NPC positions like E4 or gyms. That way we can keep the lore and still have new experiences by making new trainers.

I think that will also make it more appealing to new members who aren't established as well, which could lead to a much needed growth in activity.

I support finishing out one last plot though if we can muster it. If we can find a timeframe for people to RP and stick to it, I would really enjoy a finale if we go with the new generation of trainers (because unlike Ash we aren't just going to restart every time new pokemon are released).

EDIT: We could also try a "trial run" or a "what if" sequence through a test forum. I wouldn't mind drafting one up. If we like it we can keep it and move all the new stuff over and update the original site.

We've come up with some new plot-tonium that I think is worth doing so I'm going to have to say we should give the current generation another go.
