Innocent Wish (Story)

[Akika Miroku]

Prologue

The cold wind harshly hit the forest trees, making the leaves cling to the branches. A little girl in a cabin looked out the window, shaking a bit in fright, afraid of the wind having a chance of blowing her house away as well. She flinched each time the wind whistled outside and pulled her bed covers over her head. It wasn’t until the main door opened for the cabin and footsteps came in when the girl pushed the covers off her head again and climbed out of bed. In her arm she held a Teddiursa doll, which dangled weakly in the girl’s hold. The stuffed animal gave her slight comfort as she managed to open the door to her own house to walk out her room.

“Daddy?” The girl whimpered, taking shaky steps into the living room where a man watched television. The screen of the television was so frizzled that the girl couldn’t tell what he was watching. However she didn’t care, because it was immediately turned off when the man noticed his little girl at the entrance of the main room. He gave an annoyed glare to the girl as she walked in further towards who she called her own father. “…Chu said chu will read story for Aki tonight…”

“I did?” The man asked flatly, eyeing the bear in the girl’s arms. He clicked his tongue in annoyance when the girl gave a nervous nod. He grumbled something under his breath and got up onto his heavy feet, approaching the young child. The child trembled a bit but gave out a small smile, excited to hear a story from him. Perhaps it would let the girl’s thoughts travel away from the frightening wind.

After leading her own father so he wouldn’t get lost walking to the girl’s room, the child climbed into bed and covered herself up with the blankets. She then allowed herself to lay down, the stuffed Teddiursa still next to her. She waited as her father dug through her shelves looking for a book, flinching each time she heard another wind blow by.

“There.” The man said to himself as he moved to the girl’s bed with a book in hand. The child glanced up to the book with a smile, not caring much of what book it was. However, no matter how much she waited, trembling in fear of the wind taking her home, the father didn’t start. He instead began to flip through the pages of the book in silence, glancing at the colorful pictures of Pokémon families. His eyes twitched in irritation, making the little girl flinch a bit, afraid and not knowing what she had done wrong.

“I thought I told you to grow up.” He said finally after what seemed like hours of silence. The child blinked a few times, tears forming in her brown hues. The man continued however, not caring for his daughter’s expression. “Reading about families aren’t gonna do you any good. You just need to learn that you just don’t have a mother anymore, brat. Stop whining over that single female pig!”

With that, the girl immediately covered herself with the covers. The book was thrown at her and the door was slammed. After several silent, frightening moments, the girl poked her head out from the blankets again, her face scrunching up both in fear and depression. Her eyes shifted to the book that had now fallen on the floor, opened on one page with pictures of Pokémon families eating together. The child picked up the book and sat up in bed and after giving a nervous glance to the door, opened her mouth and forced her voice out, reading the book in trembling whispers.

“’So mommy Butterfree was happy… She… G…G…Give Caterpie a big… h..u… hug, and said Good job’,” The girl read, jumping in bed again when the harsh breeze whistled. She glanced out the window again, a frown deep on her face, the Teddiursa doll still wrapped safely in bed.

She watched as two males and one female Nidorans rushed into a hollow tree, shaking in fright and letting out squeaks of terror. They nuzzled each other to comfort one another and curled up, looking out the tree with frightened looks on their faces. A Nidorina rushed out the forest soon after, and after squeezing herself into the hollow hole, began to carefully lick the baby Nidorans. The Nidorans squealed with joy and enjoyed the comforting licks from their mother. The female Nidoran then squealed again as she poked her head out, the wind picking her up and blowing her off. Nidorina and the two male Nidorans watched in horror as the baby female flew in the air, screaming in terror. A pink blur then ran out from the forest as well and caught the blue baby. The little girl widened her eyes as she watched from the other side of the window.

The Nidorina sighed in relief as the pink blur landed on the grass, the female Nidoran carefully but tightly grasped in its jaws. The baby female Nidoran squeaked as she glanced up towards her savior, her father, a Nidorino. The Nidorino used his tongue to lick his daughter to comfort her before he carried her back to safety next to her mother and brothers. After checking that his wife, sons and daughter were all in the hole, he blocked the wind from them by sitting in front of the hole, baring the cold himself and digging his claws into the ground so he wouldn’t fly away. One of his sons poked his head out to check on his father, but the Nidorino growled and immediately and forcefully pushed the Nidoran back into the hole.

The girl watched for a while but nothing else happened. As the wind continued to blow, the Nidorino kept staying where he was, protecting his family. The sight made her whimper and look away, glancing back down to the book she just read to herself.

“…Moon, Aki wanna be a Pokémon…” She mumbled to her stuffed doll, throwing the book back onto the floor and curling up in bed, tightly squeezing the Teddiursa doll. “…At least… Then Aki can haf a nice family. One that read Aki stowies and haf a nice Mommy…” The Teddiursa doll continued to keep its sewed smile on his face as the girl whimpered and curled up in bed.

“…Aki wanna be a Pokémon…”

Chapter 1

Kitsu opened his eyes slowly, his world spinning around himself. He felt his stomach feel wet from cold, icy glaciers of crystals, and the Pidgeys awoke and flew around him. With struggle, he pushed himself up and looked around, feeling weird. He had fallen asleep on the couch of his house the night before, he remembered it clearly.

With a small gasp, Kitsu began to shift his gaze around himself. Where was he? Dark, huge trees surrounded and waved down to him, blocking the sunlight. All around him he saw Caterpies and Weedles climbing out their seeking nests and begin to nibble their breakfast. Kitsu’s mind however was one something much more important. Apparently, Caterpies, Weedles, and Pidgeys must have found steroids, because they were huge compared to how he remembered them.

“What…?” He asked himself, pushing himself up fully and beginning to walk around, when he finally suddenly stopped. He glanced down to his own hands, where fingers disappeared, and instead, pastel-sky blue mitten-like hands replaced. In panic, Kitsu also quickly looked to his feet, now barefoot, with pale yellow toes. The man screamed and began to randomly run around in the forest, past the feasting bug pokemon, across the stream where Poliwags and Zigzagoons refreshed their dry throats, and into a cave where he could see humongous Zubats flying around, trying to find a place to sleep for the day. Kitsu felt his body tremble in fright as he walked around now, looking for any clues to find out what was going on. What was he? What happened?

Glancing into a puddle, Kitsu gasped and lost his words, his black beady eyes staring into his reflection. A… Minun? Something was just not right here; what was going on?

Thinking of this transformation as a dream, Kitsu began to slap himself, tears forming in his beady eyes. Before he could start however, he heard another wailing outside the cave. He blinked, and after accidently having small sparks come out his blue cheeks, rushed out the cave to see what was going on. He blinked at the sight he saw as soon as he reached out.

“…A Pichu? In THIS forest?” Kitsu asked himself. He shook his thoughts away and moved to the crying baby Pokémon, sweatdropping nervously. He never was good with children, how could he manage a baby Pokémon? So many questions and so little answers ran through his mind as he raised his mitten hand and placed it on the Pichu’s round head. The Pichu sniffled and glanced up to the Minun-looking Kitsu.

“Minun?” The Pichu sniffled. Kitsu blinked a few times and struggled with his words, only to reply with the truth of what he knew, not wanting to cause any more troubles than there already was in this confused, twisted world of a dream.

“Actually, I’m a human…” He said, rubbing the back of his head with another hand. He then pulled his first hand away from the Pichu, who blinked a few times, as if it was lost in what Kitsu was saying. “My name is Kitsu. Not Minun.”

“Human?” The Pichu asked, its brown eyes sparkling with interest. Kitsu nodded, deciding to say nothing more. The baby mouse Pokémon seemed amused enough for now.

“Aki too.” The Pichu replied, the diamond-shaped ears twitching. Kitsu blinked as well now, his long blue ears twitching as alike as the Pichu’s did. With great interest and curiosity, the two electric Pokémon stared at one another for a long time. The noise that broke the silence between the two was a Fearow’s loud voice. The two yellow Pokémon glanced up into the sky, and Kitsu could immediately tell that trouble was about to come. There was no way he could stand a chance with a Fearow when he didn’t know what was going on; heck, though he was a Pokémon, he wasn’t sure how to even use his attacks!

“Run!” He called, getting on all fours and dashing off. The Pichu blinked and whimpered, the ears lowering beside her round head. The baby Pokémon began to sniffle again when Kitsu finally realized, that there was no way that the baby Pokémon could outrun a Fearow if it were to spot her. Rushing back to the Pichu, Kitsu immediately pulled her onto his back and after telling her to hold on tight, ran off deeper into the forest.

After reaching what he considered safety, Kitsu and the Pichu slumped down onto the damp grass. Kitsu panted as the Pichu began to talk again. “…Thank chu… Um… Mr. Kitsu…” She mumbled. “…Aki name Akika… Aki wake up an Aki wike this. Aki was Pichu… An… Aki get scawed.”

Kitsu narrowed his eyes to the Pichu who called herself Akika, several thoughts rushing through his mind. That was exactly how he had woken up, suddenly being a Pokémon in a world where all Pokémon just seemed so much bigger than himself. “How old are you?” He panted. Akika’s ear twitched a bit as she tilted her head, an innocent look automatically plastering on her Pichu-face.

“…Five?” She said uncertainly. Kitsu pushed himself back up and pushed one of his long ears behind himself before he moved to the female baby Pokémon. He could sense the fear the girl was fighting, especially at a young age and being out alone suddenly. Her parents….

Parents? Kitsu’s ears perked up a bit as he began to look around. Where were the humans? His friends? His family? Were they all Pokémon as well; was that the dream he was trapped in?

“Akika, where is your house? Surely it might be better if you return to them now?” He asked, glancing over to her. Akika frowned and shook her head suddenly, and as if to show she was willing to fight back if he tried to bring her back forcefully, she allowed small electric stars to spark next to her cheeks, tingling herself at the sensation. Kitsu saw this and decided to back off on the subject for now; there were better things to do anyway.

“…Only if chu ish a human before, chu can understand Pokémon,” The Pichu started suddenly, almost making Kitsu jump. “…Aki find that out before chu find Aki…”

“What do you mean?” Curious to find out the way the system worked around the Pokémon world, Kitsu shifted himself to turn fully to Akika as the five year old struggled to create her own sentences to explain the best she could.

“…Like… If chu was not a human before… Then chu no understand what Aki say…” She said softly, almost as if she was mumbling every other word. Her ears lowered as she saw Kitsu’s confused look staring down at her coldly.

“You… You just confused me,” Kitsu said, shaking his head slowly. Akika kept the helpless frown on her face as he continued. “What are you talking about?”

“…” Akika said nothing more, just looking away from him, up into the clear blue sky. Her tail wiggled a bit as she whispered among herself. “…Aki did ask to be Pokémon… But Aki want Pokémon wif family… Not all awone…”

Kitsu glanced over to Akika and up to the sky, his sensitive ears catching the girl’s voice. “You asked to be a Pokémon?”

“Mhm,” She said softly, her ears flattened, as if she was scared of what else to say. “…Maybe… Maybe dweam come true…”

“Like such dreams come true; if this dream came true, then we could wish for anything.” Kitsu snorted, making Akika hush again into silence. He never was good with children, let alone little kindergarteners. He didn’t notice of how what he said was so cold to the child until he turned his gaze back on her. Tears filled the Pichu’s eyes, and soon enough, like an infant, she began to cry. Kitsu sweatdropped nervously as he sighed, not knowing what to do.

“Akika, you’re not making it any bet---“ He stopped in his words and suddenly swooped up the young Pokémon, dashing away, fear clearly shown in his eyes. The Fearow had returned, picking up the wailing squeaks of the young Pichu as a prey. Akika stopped crying when fear got best of her and buried her face into the Minun’s fur, squeaking each time she heard the Fearow cry out to threaten his prey.

“This way! Hurry!” A voice called. Kitsu, carrying Akika on his back, turned swiftly towards the voice and without thinking twice, jumped into tiny cave hole he heard the voice from. It wasn’t until he was certain that the Fearow was gone when he turned to see who heard, blinking at the orange and yellow light that lit up the dark, hollow cave hole.

“…Alix?”

[Akika Miroku]

Chapter 2

Akika lifted her face out from Kitsu’s pastel yellow fur and whimpered. Her ears lowered as she glanced to the orange monkey Kitsu announced as ‘Alix’. How he could tell who she was was a mystery to the young Pokémon. With difficulty, she shifted herself to get a better view of the Pokémon, blinking a few times as she remembered seeing the species in a Pokémon book she owned back in her lonely, dark room.

“…Chimchar…” She said softly, pointing her little hand to the monkey Pokémon. The Chimchar nodded and rubbed the back of her head, seeming a bit shy at how they called her by a Pokémon name. Kitsu knelt down and placed Akika on the ground before he too sat down, sighing in relief.

“Thanks, Alix.” He said, relieved. Alix nodded and stifled a laugh. She fixed the hat she wore on her head and jumped over closer to Kitsu and Akika, tilting her head in a questioning manner.

“Just because you’re a Pokémon now doesn’t mean kidnapping is legal, Kitsu.” Alix joked, trying to lighten up the mood. The Minun twitched in annoyance before he shifted his gaze to the Pichu he helped escape the Fearow.

“Kidnap?” Kitsu asked, turning to face the monkey Pokémon again. Alix giggled softly as he twitched again, only to hear the Pichu squeak behind him. With her ears lowered, Akika frowned, thinking Alix was serious. Kitsu shook his head and lightly tapped Alix’s head, ruffling the fur on the Chimchar.

“Don’t scare her more than she already is.” He said softly, almost in a whisper. “That Fearow shook her enough.”

“You thought I didn’t know that?” Crossing her arms, Alix puffed her cheeks out and glared to the Minun. Kitsu’s blue ears wiggled as he too narrowed his eyes into a glare. Before he said anything however, sensing the tension, Akika whimpered again. Giggling again, Alix stuck her tongue out at Kitsu and moved herself to Akika. She lifted the Pichu off the ground barely using her arms and sweatdropped, figuring that she couldn’t place her on her back as Kitsu did when he carried her. Seeing that, Kitsu laughed, the glare on his face disappearing.

“I bet you didn’t think Pichus could be this big, huh?” He commented, moving over to the two again. Alix blushed a bit and looked behind herself, seeing the fire on her butt. Akika too stared in horror at the fire, flinching when Alix shifted her, afraid of riding Alix’s back and being burnt.

“W…We can’t stay in here forever.” Alix commented, quickly changing the topic. Kitsu blinked and soon stopped laughing, getting serious at the thought suddenly. She was right. Nothing would change if they were to stay in the hole they were in currently; besides, they had to leave one time or another to survive. One way or another, they had to make up a plan. He reached out and took the worried child into his hold again. After seeing Akika smile a bit and nuzzle herself to him, he blinked a few times, never seeing a child this close and attached to himself.

Figuring that the topic was not one the little one should listen to, Kitsu signaled Alix to be quiet with a flick of his ear, tapping Alix’s mouth with the tip of it, and shifted Akika to his back, where she seemed most comfortable at. Indeed, as soon as she was made to ride on his back, Akika calmed immediately, and the silence soon made her drowsy from all the fear she just faced. Without much trouble, she closed her eyes and traveled to dreamland.

Hearing soft sighs of slumber coming from the back, Kitsu smiled a bit and went back to talk to Alix, carrying the baby Pokémon on his back as he did so. Before he could start talking however, Alix opened her mouth and asked, “How did you know it was me?”

“The hat.” Kitsu said easily, careful not to wake the sleeping Pichu. “You always wore that one, even as a human. And of course, your voice.”

“Never forget a girlfriend’s voice?” Alix teased, chuckling when she saw the Minun’s face turn slightly red under the yellow fur.

“What girlfriend!?” He growled. Alix however blinked, and in panic, placed her hand over her mouth and signaled for him to be quiet. Akika whimpered, her ears twitching as she did so. Kitsu let sparks come from his body as he went quiet, but kept a glare on the Alix. Her jokes were not funny to him. At least, not anymore.

“…Let’s get back to business.” Alix suggested, sweatdropping and glancing to the upset Minun. As a human she knew he would not be a pretty-looking man, but a hard-blushed pouting man. As a Minun, he was just adorable, like she could just cuddle him if she was big enough to do so. She watched as Kitsu nudged Akika on his back a bit, making the position comfortable for himself before responding.

“What business? We’re stuck as Pokémon.” He grumbled. “The only business I consider real is finding out how to change back.”

“Mhm, that’s one of them.” Alix nodded, agreeing that she too wanted to change back into a human. “But I think the bigger question is how we turned into Pokémon in the first place. Until we know that, even if we were to change back into humans, we will only have the same chance of changing into Pokémon again. Granted I was a Chimchar this time, but what if next time I was a Slowpoke!?”

“What do you mean?” Kitsu asked, not quite catching on. Alix sighed and shook her head, slowing down from her small panic speech.

“…What I’m trying to say is… we just need to find out what caused us to become Pokémon first before we do anything.” She said, trying her best to hold back her extra information. She watched as Kitsu frowned a bit and glanced back to the sleeping Pichu.

“She claims she wished to become a Pokémon.” Kitsu said softly, frowning a bit with uncertainty. “She says that the wish came true.”

Alix scoffed and shook her head, shooing away the idea of a wish of such coming true. How can a wish so big as to this came true, and yet her wish for getting what she wants not coming true? At least her wishes were more realistic, like wanting to pass a test she studied for or winning a Pokémon match. Kitsu felt his long ears slowly lower to the ground as he watched Alix get up and shake her head in denial.

“I don’t think that’s possible.”

“Me either, but there’s nothing else that gives us a clue.” Kitsu claimed, suddenly getting defensive. Alix still shook her head; there was no way he was going to make her believe such fantasy.

“We should go back to our families.” Alix suggested and suddenly got up. She poked her head out the hole of the cave and glanced around. The Fearow was gone, for now, at least. “I know what forest this is, so it’ll be easy to go back.”

“You know this forest?” Kitsu’s eyes gleamed. He felt a small light of hope shining in his mind. Alix nodded and pulled herself out the hole, glancing around cautiously. Kitsu followed, still carrying the slumbering Akika on his back as he did so.

“Of course I do. You should too, Kitsu.” She said, walking slowly on all fours, making sure Kitsu could keep up. “It’s the forest near our village.”

“…” Kitsu blinked, suddenly feeling a rush of blood coming to his face. He blushed, embarrassed of not recognizing the forest he used to play in as a child. He was about to protest to Alix, to say that he of course knew which forest he was in, until he heard voices. He blinked, tightening his grip on Akika’s feet, making sure she wouldn’t fall off of him if he had to suddenly dash back to the cave hole. Alix too lowered herself closer to the ground, her stomach touching the wet grass.

The voices grew louder, and soon enough Kitsu could hear scrambling of Pokémon around him. The Butterfrees carefully shaded their just-born eggs with their black and white wings against flowers, doing their best to camouflage into the forest. Pidgeys too hid their eggs with their own bodies, quivering in fear of the voices they must hear as well. Not knowing what was going on or what to do, Alix and Kitsu too dashed back to their ‘den’ and hid themselves.

The voices soon were all around them. In swish moments, Alix watched in horror as grown men in black and red suddenly began to tear Butterfrees away from their eggs and stuff them into a vacuum-like net and stuff their eggs in a plastic bag. Alix growled and was about to jump out at them, but she felt Kitsu hold her leg tightly so she couldn’t attack. However, Kitsu was nowhere near watching Alix. His attention were to the young Pidgeys, doing their best to protect their precious eggs. The poor bird Pokémon were grabbed violently by men dressed in the same outfit as the ones who separated the Butterfree and eggs, and stuffed into a garbage bag. After capturing several Pidgeys, they began to take their eggs again, and just left the egg-layers all captured and immobile on the ground. With the eggs, the men began to look around for more.

Hearing a soft mumble from Akika, Kitsu cursed under his breath and pushed himself further into the hole. He couldn’t let a young child see such sight; it was horrible. Mother Pokémon cried out for their newborns. Alix, too horrified by the scene to move, just watched as Furrets now were thrown into a bag and after tied, tossed to the ground as they stole their newborn Sentrets that screamed for their mothers.

Alix jumped when she saw one of the men walk towards the hole she was in. She moved herself against the wall and watched as a hand came in slowly. It felt as if a monster was attacking her home. The man grunted and kept pushing his hand in further into the hole, soon being able to touch Kitsu’s foot. In fear, Kitsu could only continue to scoot himself away from the hand, wincing each time he felt the man try to grab him.

“There’s a Pokémon in here!” He heard the man call. Kitsu flinched as he saw the hand grow more desperate in catching him. Alix soon however couldn’t handle anymore, and opened her mouth wide, biting the hand.

The man wailed and quickly pulled his hand out, and Alix let go of it before she too was pulled out. They had no time to run however, because several men now were around the hole, grinning.

“A Chimchar and a Minun.” One of them commented, grinning darkly, not being able to see Akika due to Kitsu’s body blocking her. “Those are rare I think. Boss would be happy to have them too.”

“They might even be someone else’s Pokémon.” Another one said. “I don’t think these Pokémon usually exist in this forest.”

“Then that’s double! Someone might have money awards for their poor little things.”

The men laughed as the third man mocked innocently. One released a Pokémon. Kitsu and Alix were not able to see what Pokémon it was until a muzzle was stuck into the hole.

“A… A Houndoom!!!” Kitsu screeched in fear.
